Watch moment woman weighing 27 stone rescued from fifth-floor flat with a crane

A 27-stone woman had to be lifted out of her flat in Colombia by fire crews with a crane.

The 25-year-old had fallen and hurt her leg in her fifth-floor flat in Bello, the Aburra Valley, forcing emergency services to help her.

Due to the woman’s weight, it was impossible for fire crews and paramedics to remove her via the stairs.

To avoid another fall and further injury, the rescue lasted almost two hours.

Ten people and a crane were needed, lifting the woman out of her flat and down to the ground below.

César Augusto Arango, secretary of Risk Management in the municipality of Bello, said: “Risk Management receives a call requesting help for a patient on a fifth floor with no lift.

“The patient, weighing around 170 kilos, was difficult to move down the stairs. The operation took an hour and 45 minutes.”

The woman remained calm throughout the rescue, while her neighbours watched on.

She was taken to the nearby Marco Fidel Suarez hospital by emergency services. She was released after a few hours of observation.

According to the locals in the Obrero neighbourhood, nothing like this had ever happened before.

They also highlighted the good work emergency services did to rescue the young woman. One said: “We were surprised because it was very high. This was impressive”.
