Vodafone rivals BT broadband with ultimate Wi-Fi upgrade at a cheaper price

Vodafone is offering broadband packages with the new and improved router from £26 per month. Equivalent broadband packages from BT recently started at £33.99 per month, and Vodafone even undercuts BT’s current sale price of £28.99.

For an £7 extra per month, Vodaone will add its Super Wi-Fi 6 Booster to your new package. This gadget uses what’s known as mesh Wi-Fi to spread reliable wireless signals through your home so there are no dropout dramas when you’re halfway through that Fortnite match.

Now that Vodafone is offering Wi-Fi 6 routers with all of its broadband plans, the provider is rivalling UK telecoms incumbent BT, whose EE brand also offers broadband packages with a Wi-Fi 6 router called Smart Hub Plus. Wi-Fi 6 is a recent standard of Wi-Fi that is more stable and can provide faster, more reliable performance. The catch is that to see the real benefits, your connected devices also have to be new enough to support Wi-Fi 6.

EE is pushing to go one better, recently exclusively revealing to Express.co.uk its plans for a Wi-Fi 7 router in the near future.

“The Super WiFi 6 Booster works seamlessly with the Power Hub to give reliable coverage around the whole home,” Vodafone said in a press release. “Its mesh WiFi capability adapts the connectivity to give customers wall to wall WiFi. Customers will also receive dedicated WiFi Xpert support, who will help monitor and fix any issues. And in the unlikely event they don’t get reliable WiFi coverage across every corner of the home, Vodafone’s Whole Home WiFi Guarantee lets them leave, for free.”

Of course, you’ll also have to be eligible for the fastest broadband speeds to take advantage of the capabilities of the new Power Hub router. When Express.co.uk plugged its postcode into Vodafone’s website, we were only offered plans of 35Mbps and 65.4Mbps. That’s only a fraction of the near-gigabit speeds of 910Mbps the router is capable of – a fancy router does not always equal faster speeds, it’s all about the speed of the connection to your house.

Vodafone is running a campaign for new customers called ‘The Great British Telecoms Switch’ in which it claims BT customers who come over to Vodafone could save up to £200 on their bills.
