Vladimir Putin's forces launch savage 'hypersonic missile' strikes overnight across Ukrain

The strikes came after the UK promised to give Ukraine a large number of military drones.

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak made a surprise visit to the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, and announced that the UK would increase its financial support for Ukraine to £2.5 billion next financial year – an increase of £200 million.

Mr Sunak said: “Ukraine will never be alone. Putin might think that he can outlast us but he is wrong. We stand with you today, tomorrow and for as long as it takes.”

It has also been reported that Russian forces hit a grain silo in the Kharkiv Oblast, destroying the grain inside.

An investigator from the region two gliding bombs hit the silo overnight.

Serhii Bolvinov wrote on Facebook: “Destroyed crops and destroyed premises – the Russians continue to raid civilian objects.”

As Russia ramps up its strikes on Ukraine, Kyiv has presented its peace formula in an attempt to push the two sides toward a deal that could end the war.

On Sunday, a meeting was held between national security advisers from around the world in Davos.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky was not present. He will address the World Economic Forum (WEF) this week.

Ukraine has presented a 10-point peace formula that seeks the expulsion of all Russian forces from Ukraine – both sides are fighting from largely static positions along a roughly 1,500km (930-mile) frontline.

Switzerland hosted the peace talks, and said the aim was to find a solution “for a lasting and just peace in Ukraine”.

But the Swiss Department of Foreign Affairs said in a statement: “The war is far from over and peace is still nowhere in sight.”
