Vladimir Putin enemy feared dead as Alexei Navalny goes missing: 'Worried for his life'

“If they once got an authorisation to murder Navalny, do they have another one now or is the last one still valid? Navalny’s life is constantly at a high risk.”

Kira Yarmysh, another spokesperson for Mr Navalny, believes he could have been transferred to another prison but added: “It is not known where exactly he was taken.

“I want to remind you that lawyers have not seen Alexei since December 6. Why they were not allowed to meet with him, if Alexei was still in IK-6, we do not know.”

Earlier this week, the Kremlin hit out at the US and accused it of “interference” after Washington said it was “deeply concerned” about Navalny.

French foreign ministry spokesman Christophe Lemoine also raised concerns when he said “France considers Russia responsible for the health of its detainees, in particular political prisoners.

“The lack of news for the past several days is very worrying.”

Navalny is in jail due to extremism and fraud charges, though many see his imprisonment as politically motivated.

He has been behind bars since 2021 when he returned to Russia after recovering from nerve agent poisoning that he blamed on the Kremlin.

Earlier this month, Putin announced he would be running for “re-election” in Russia in 2024.

Navalny then urged his countrymen to vote against Putin, and claimed the Russian president will use the election next year as an “approval of the war” in Ukraine.

He added: “On 17 March, the day of the election, we urge everyone to come to the polls and vote against Vladimir Putin.”

Navalny also claimed the election results “will be rigged” but declared “Russia doesn’t need Putin anymore.”
