A pistachio-flavoured sweet treat has been recalled over fears they could trigger allergies in people who are sensitive to milk. The affected Lokumella Mini Pistachio Bars were sold in TK Maxx and Homesense stores between January and March.
A notice issued by the retailers said: “We are recalling the Lokumella Mini Pistachio Bars due to a safety issue. They contain undeclared milk which could cause an allergic reaction. If you purchased the product and are allergic to milk, please stop using it immediately and return to any TK Maxx or Homesense store.”
Around 2-7% of babies are thought to suffer from allergies to cow’s milk, although most outgrow it during childhood.
The reaction occurs when the immune system mistakenly identifies proteins found in cow’s milk as a threat.
Symptoms include wheezing, vomiting, hives, swelling of the lips and shortness of breath.
In severe cases, contact with milk can trigger deadly anaphylaxis.
The stores are offering a full refund or replacement for all affected products.
They have the codes 758612 and 758664, which can be found on the price ticket and receipt.
It comes after a similar recall was issued last month over undeclared milk in frozen garlic break.
A batch of Goodfella’s Stonebaked Thin Garlic Bread made by Birds Eye contained milk not listed on the label.
