Digbeth in Birmingham has been named one of the coolest places to live in the UK.
According to a new study compiling a list of the coolest postcodes in the country, B9, the postcode for Digbeth, is one of the top places to head to.
Describing Digbet as perfect for ‘Brummie brats’, the Sunday Times writes that this area, which was once Birmingham’s “beating industrial heart,” has now become ground zero for “365 party girls (and boys).”
They continued: “The vibe in this graffitied neighbourhood is converted warehouses with a clubbing culture on its doorstep — Club Colette, housed in an abandoned fried chicken shop that’s tucked under Victorian railway arches, is a recent addition — alongside a host of cutting-edge galleries, such as the artist-run Eastside Projects.
“There’s even a touch of glamour: the local production facilities Digbeth Loc Studios is where some of the upcoming Peaky Blinders movie, the Birmingham interwar drama starring Cillian Murphy and Barry Keoghan, was filmed.”
Despite all of this, Digbeth has remained loyal to its industrial roots. The former headquarters of Bird’s (known for its custards) has been turned into the Custard Factory, which is now home to a number of creative businesses.
Describing the area, the Digbeth website reads: “A growing neighbourhood of eclectic individuals and innovative businesses in Birmingham’s former industrial heartland. A place with limitless potential and a fearless, inventive spirit.”
Next on the list of coolest postcodes was BT56, the postcode for Northern Ireland’s Portrush, with its stunning coastline and three blue-flag beaches.
Third on the list was CH2 (Hoole, Chesire), which The Times described as perfect for “yummy mummies” thanks to its indie spirit, cool café culture, and numerous pregnancy-friendly fitness classes and studios.
And for those looking to find London on the list, you’ll have to scroll down a bit with only one London postcode, making it into the top 11 coolest postcodes.
SE20, the postcode for Penge, was the ninth location on The Times’s list, which they describe as London’s “best kept secret”, adding that this is the “most desirable postcode south of the river.”
