UK weather maps turn purple as Britain hit by 30 hours of constant snow

Britain will witness a return of cold weather conditions as the latest weather maps have turned purple hinting at the possibility of snow next week.

Maps from WXcharts show snow accumulation in several parts of the country at around 3 pm on April 14 (Sunday).

The return of the breezy conditions comes after many parts of the country witnessed temperature levels going as high as 20C this afternoon.

On Saturday, temperatures will peak at 9 to 12C in the north and west and 14 to 20C depending on how far east and south you are, paired with a mostly moderate or fresh South Westerly wind.

However, a nip in the air could be felt from Sunday evening with temperature levels dropping across the country.

WXCharts maps which are prepared using the Metdesk data have turned white for the northern areas as they show snowy conditions until 9 pm on April 15.

Temperature levels will oscillate between 0-1C in the north while the southern areas such as Manchester and Birmingham could see 5-6C.

However, areas around Plymouth and Southampton will see mercury levels rising to 10C on April 15.

The weather pattern was confirmed by a weather expert, Jim Dale, who spoke about the swinging weather conditions.

He had told Express.co.uk: “The weather conditions are likely to swing up and down in the coming days.

“Sometimes it will stay quite warm, for instance, this Friday and Saturday, and back to being a bit cooler on Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday.”

Even the Met Office’s forecast for Sunday to Tuesday suggests of “cooler” weather.

It stated: “Generally bright, breezy and cooler on Sunday. Showers in the northwest, spreading to all parts on Monday. A notably cooler feel as temperatures drop to average for April.”

Today:

Rather cloudy with patchy rain in the north, though brighter across the far northeast of Scotland. England and Wales mostly dry with warm sunshine, but cloudier in the far west. Feeling very warm in the sunshine, especially in the east.

Tonight:

Further rain and drizzle in the northwest of the UK where winds pick up with some coastal gales. Low cloud in the west which feeds inland. Clearer in the east.

Saturday:

Patchy low cloud should clear quickly in the south. A weak band of rain moves southeastwards, clearing by dusk. Showers in the northwest, locally heavy with thunder. Turning cooler.

Outlook for Sunday to Tuesday:

Generally bright, breezy and cooler on Sunday. Showers in the northwest, spreading to all parts on Monday. A notably cooler feel as temperatures drop to average for April.
