UK weather maps turn purple as 685-mile wall of snow covers Britain from top to bottom

A huge wall of snow is likely to batter Britain as the latest maps have turned purple from top to bottom indicating another spell of wintry conditions in the coming weeks.

Maps from WXCharts show that areas from Wick to Southampton will be layered with snow as icy conditions take over the 685-mile region at around 6am on February 22.

It comes as no surprise as the whole of the UK is already facing freezing temperatures with several yellow warnings issued by the Met Office for this weekend (February 10).

While amber weather warnings for Wales and the Pennines have passed, yellow warnings for snow and ice are in place for much of Scotland for Friday and Saturday.

But the latest maps add to the misery of Brits who have been left troubled by the power and travel restrictions over the last few days.

Weather conditions in February seem to be erratic with a mix of dry and wintry conditions.

Snowy conditions are also likely to lash certain parts of the UK in the coming week with temperatures plummeting to -5C.

The Met Office’s long-range forecast for February 13 to 22 stated: “Begins the period cloudy with showers or longer spells of rain across north/north-western areas with drier conditions in the south.

“Becoming mainly dry by the middle of next week, especially in the east with the greatest chance for sunny spells, whereas western areas may see some rain or showers spread in from the Atlantic at times.

“Temperatures will probably be around normal, although colder conditions could develop in the east with overnight frost.

“Into the weekend and the following week, much of the UK will lie under the influence of predominantly dry conditions thanks to high pressure extending from mainland Europe, albeit with temperatures turning colder.

“However, milder, wetter weather from the Atlantic will always lie close by, with this encroaching from the west at times.”

Today:

Wintry showers continuing in the far north, with a band of rain and mainly hill snow across central areas moving northwards through the day. Cloudier in the south with some showers, these locally heavy. Mild in the south, colder elsewhere.

Tonight:

Rain and hill snow persisting across north and east Scotland. Elsewhere, patchy cloudy with some showers or longer spells of rain. Fog patches may develop underneath the clearest spells.

Saturday:

Rain and some snow persisting in the far north, mostly over higher ground. Occasional brighter interludes in the south once any fog clears, with showers, these mostly in the west.

Outlook for Sunday to Tuesday:

Often cloudy through the period with showers or longer spells of rain. Some bright or sunny intervals developing, most likely on Tuesday. Breezy along the coasts with temperatures around average.
