Britain is set to bask in some late autumn sunshine in the coming days with temperatures rocketing to 20C in some parts of the nation. The Indian Summer conditions will affect a large slice of England towards the south and east of the country, with 20 counties getting the best of the weather.
Surrey, Hertfordshire, Greater London, Essex, Norfolk, West and East Sussex, Kent, Northamptonshire, Oxfordshire, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Hampshire, Bedfordshire, Leicestershire, Suffolk, Warwickshire, Lincolnshire, Derbyshire, and Rutland will all experience conditions in the high teens or 20C when the mini heatwave hits on Saturda,y October 18.
New maps from weather watchers, WXCharts, show much of the south and the east of the country basking in warm temperatures, with cooler conditions in Wales, the West Country, Northern Ireland and Scotland.
According to the Met Office, the warmest day ever recorded for October was in 2011 when Gravesend in Kent experienced an incredible 29.9C on October 1. The warm weather on the horizon comes as many Brits have avoided seeking sunshine in Spain in recent days as heavy rain is set to sweep through the region.
A long-range forecast for the Met Office covering October 18, said Britain could expect some “sunny spells” later this month. The forecast for Tuesday, October 14 to Thursday, October 23 said: “High pressure is expected to be the dominant weather type across the UK at the start of this period.
“Whilst some rain and drizzle is likely in parts of the south and east on Tuesday, the rest of the first week is expected to be predominantly dry.
“Cloud amounts will vary, but most areas will see some spells of sunshine, and there could be a few isolated fog patches overnight. Temperatures are likely to be close to normal for the time of year.
“During the second half of this period, there are signs that the overall pattern will shift with low pressure systems probably moving in from the west in some fashion.
“However, details of any wetter and more unsettled weather are still very uncertain.”
