UK weather maps show huge 216-mile wall of snow battering southern half of Britain

As February eases towards March, it won’t be long before the green shoots of spring are clear for all to see. But winter may have a few tricks to play yet.

According to the forecasters at WX Charts, a band of snow stretching from North Wales to South Wales and eastwards to the mouth of the Thames in Essex and Kent may arrive on February 26 at around 6am.

It is important to stress that the Met Office has said that snow forecasts are unreliable more than two days from the date in question.

However, the radar from WX Charts suggests, at the very least, that more wintry weather might be on its way at some stage.

According to the radar, the area of deepest snow will be just to the north-east of Cardiff.

Not only may Cardiff have to contend with heavy snow at the end of the month, but the city also has a yellow weather warning for rain in place on Wednesday February 21.

The weather warning, which covers the western tip of Cornwall, Bristol, Bath and most of South Wales and western Wales is in place from midnight until noon on Wednesday.

According to the Met Office there is the possibility of flooding and “interruption to power supplies”.

As a result, travel times are expected to take longer than usual, with trains and bus routes potentially affected.

Today:

Rain will clear the southeast during the morning with any fog clearing too. Otherwise another largely fine day with some sunny spells, albeit rather breezy. Some showers in the northwest followed by rain later. Staying mild for February.

Tonight:

Mostly dry and cloudy in the south, but turning quite murky in the southwest. Rain in the north becoming heavy at times overnight. Winds strengthening for all. Temperatures staying mild.

Tuesday:

Cloudy and windy with a band of rain spreading towards the southeast through the day. Cooler in the northwest with heavy blustery showers, perhaps turning wintry over high ground of Scotland.

Outlook for Wednesday to Friday:

Unsettled with outbreaks of rain or showers, and often windy too. Some brighter interludes at times. Mild, although temperatures becoming closer to average as the week progresses.
