UK weather maps show exactly when 446-mile wall of snow will hit Britain

Britain is likely to be battered by cold conditions as the latest weather modelling maps have turned purple and white depicting heavy snow showers in parts of the UK.

Maps from weather forecast model data viewer WXCharts suggest snow is anticipated to fall across the UK, including regions at lower altitudes, with forecasts indicating potential accumulations of up to 5cm (two inches).

The maps have turned a mix of purple and white for February 27 covering areas from Inverness to Birmingham as a huge 446-mile-long wall of snow hits parts of the country.

The return of the freezing condition comes with days of rain as several yellow warnings have been issued by the Met Office.

The Met Office has said the rainfall is set to make its way eastwards from the Atlantic and move across the UK from Saturday afternoon into Sunday.

Its yellow warning for heavy rain lasts from 3pm on Saturday until 9am on Sunday and covers southern England, the Midlands and much of Wales.

The Environment Agency has issued 11 flood warnings and 113 alerts in England, while Natural Resources Wales issued one alert in South Pembrokeshire.

Maps from WXCharts indicate that parts of Scotland such as Aberdeen, Inverness, and Wick could witness snowfall up to 19cm on February 27. Temperature levels in these areas are likely to plummet to 0C during the same period bringing in more brutal weather conditions.

On the other hand, areas like Newcastle, Manchester, and Birmingham might see 3-5cm of snow, maps suggest.

The Met Office’s long-range forecast for February 22 to March 2 suggests the possibility of snow in a few northern parts of the country.

It stated: “Conditions remain unsettled on Thursday with some early showers from the west displaced by longer spells of rain from the southwest spreading across the UK through the day, some hill snow possible in far north UK.

“Toward Friday skies clear with showers then pushing in from the west though the day for a day of sunny spells and occasional showers, blustery across coasts. Temperatures around average for the time of year though edging cooler in north-western areas.

“From Saturday conditions expected to remain unsettled with occasional bands of rain or showers, heaviest rainfall affecting the west, although most areas likely to see some rainfall.

“Occasional strong winds especially in north-western areas, with more settled conditions across the south and east where driest and brightest conditions more likely.

This Evening and Tonight:

Outbreaks of rain and drizzle continuing to push eastwards, turning heavy at times. Rain gradually clearing much of the country by dawn, though lingering in the south and southeast. Another mild night.

Sunday:

Some early mist and fog patches to start in the west, with rain in the southeast slowly clearing. Elsewhere, a largely dry day with occasional sunny spells and showers. Mild.

Outlook for Monday to Wednesday:

Showery rain pushing southeastwards on early Monday followed by showers in the north. Further rain in the north overnight Tuesday sinking southwards. Unsettled for many on Wednesday. Staying fairly mild.
