UK weather maps reveal exact areas where snow will fall in bitter cold snap

Cold weather conditions will hit several parts of the UK as the latest weather maps show temperature levels plunging as low as -1C. Maps from WXCharts suggest a cold snap will batter the country on April 26 (Friday) with northern areas witnessing some light snow showers.

The freezing temperature will come a day after sunny spells and scattered showers across the country.

WXCharts maps which are made using the Metdesk data have turned purple in areas around Inverness indicating snow accumulation in those areas.

According to the maps, Friday will have a nippy start, with showers persisting in the north and east. There is a possibility of some snow on hills further south, experts have suggested.

Terry Scholey, a weather expert wrote in his blog for Netweather.tv: “After another early touch of frost in places, it will be a sunny start for some, but clouds will build again to produce scattered showers.

“These will be most frequent over the far North of Scotland, where some will be wintry, with some snow, and also likely on hills further south.

“At lower levels, the showers will mostly fall as rain or hail, but it’s possible you could see sleet or even wet snow in a few of the heavier showers. Again, some places will miss them, and there’ll continue to be sunny intervals.

“But with a northerly breeze, although mostly light of polar origin, it’ll feel raw out of the sun, with top temperatures from North to South only 7 to 12C.”

Met Office expert Ellie Glaisyer told The Sun: “The reason for the low temperatures is that we’ve got an area of high pressure out west.

“That gives us a northerly wind across the UK, particularly across eastern parts.

“This is bringing us slightly below-average temperatures, as the air is coming from towards the Arctic.”

Today:

A cold but often bright start to the day for many. Sunny spells with a few showers, which could be heavy at times, and perhaps turning wintry over hills in the north. Feeling chilly, especially in the north and east.

Tonight:

Showers easing for many through the evening, although a few still possible in the east. Variable cloud overnight, but turning chilly under any clear spells.

Friday:

Another chilly start. Showers continuing in the north and east, with some sleet and snow over the hills. Rain arriving in the southwest later. Feeling chilly despite the light winds.

Outlook for Saturday to Monday:

Gradually becoming more unsettled over the weekend with showers, some heavy and possibly thundery at times. Often cloudy and feeling chilly in brisk winds. Temperatures recovering a little from Sunday.
