The UK looks set to bask in a mini-heatwave over thie final Bank Holiday of this month, with weather maps showing temperatures hitting highs of 27C in some parts of the country.

Britain has already experienced its hottest start to May on record and it appears the weather could be heating up again in the coming weeks, with temperatures above the average for Madrid (23.7C), Lisbon (22.5C) and Rome (23.4C) possible for a number of areas in England. Norfolk, Suffolk and Cambridgeshire in the east are set to see temperatures of up to 25C, while most of Hampshire, West Sussex, East Sussex and Kent could experience similar heat.

The weather map also shows the Midlands is expected to bask in the balmy conditions, ranging from 22C to 24C.

Temperatures in Birmingham and Nottingham could reach 24C, while 23C heat in Manchesteris also possible.

Much of Yorkshire also looks set for some hot spells, although temperatures in the rest of the north of England aren’t expected to get over 19C.

England’s south-west is not expected to get the sizzling weather, with temperatures in the teens.

Scotland could see some fine temperatures, reaching a maximum of 19C. Both Glasgow and Edinburgh look set to some of the warmest conditions in Scotland (18C and 19C respectively).

In Wales and Northern Ireland it is likely to be cooler, according to the weather map, although eastern areas of Wales along the border with England could see temperatures between 18C and 20C.

Temperatures in Pembrokeshire and Carmarthenshire could be as low as 13C.

The Met Office long-range forecast for May 25 to June 8 says: “The start of the period may see some more in the way of rain and showers across, especially across western parts.

“Fine and dry weather is more likely to prevail towards the south and east and may start to develop more widely, but occasional spells of rain and showers are still possible, with potential for thunderstorms on some days. Overall, temperatures will most likely be around or above normal for the time of year.”
