UK weather LIVE: Storm Kathleen unleashes flooding chaos with 29-hour Met Office warning

Storm Kathleen is here and is causing widespread havoc across the UK with flood alerts active in their dozens. Beach huts have been swept into the sea in Cornwall, and a West Sussex holiday park has been dealt an urgent warning with guests evacuated.

Kathleen’s brutal swipe across the country is the subject of a 29 hour Met Office weather warning today (April 9) where gusts of up to 65mph will batter coastlines. Huge waves have crashed against land, while ferocious gales have started to cause serious damage.

The Met Office says: “It’s likely that some coastal routes, sea fronts and coastal communities will be affected by spray and/or large waves. There will also be some delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport and some short term loss of power and other services is possible.”

Strong winds are pushing off the English Channel, resulting in the southern coast of England being hit by strong winds – especially in exposed coastal areas. It is hoped the wind will change direction before lunchtime, which will result in an easing of conditions.
