UK weather: Exact areas facing barrage of four inches of snow an hour next week

New weather maps show lots of snow could fall across parts of the UK next week.

Britain is getting ready for a big snow dump next week, with some areas possibly getting up to four inches every hour if it’s cold enough.

Weather experts at WX Charts have shared maps that show where the snow might come down next Saturday, February 24. The North East and some of the North West look set to see snow.

Scotland is also preparing for a heavy dump of snow that evening, and even Greater Manchester might find itself under a blanket of snow when they wake up.

The Met Office said: “During late February and early March, there is a higher than normal likelihood of northerly or easterly winds dominating, which would increase the chance of colder and drier than average conditions.

“Spells of milder and wetter weather are still likely to occur at times, especially in the south and southwest, with the potential for snow on the boundary between milder and colder air.”

Met Office weather forecaster, Alex Burkill, has warned of a chilly start to the week with showers continuing from the northwest and up to one inch of snow forecast over the Highlands. More wet weather is expected to hit the UK on Tuesday due to an area of low pressure.

Wales and Southwest England are set to experience the heaviest downpours, with up to an inch of rain or more predicted in these areas. These showers are expected to spread across the rest of the UK by evening, with warmer temperatures forecast in the south.

By early Wednesday morning, temperatures in northern Scotland will be at 0C or below, resulting in a hard frost. However, the cloud and rain will keep temperatures higher in the south. The rest of the UK can expect to continue experiencing wet weather throughout the week, with heavy persistent rain and warm temperatures in much of the country.
