The affluent Cheshire village of Alderley Edge, known for its millionaire and billionaire residents, famous footballers, and frequent sightings of supercars, can now boast of having the north west’s “most expensive street”. According to a recent study by The Times, the average house price on Macclesfield Road, the village’s most prestigious address, has reached a staggering £6million.
This makes it one of the most expensive roads in the UK, as revealed in the study that lists the most expensive streets across every region, with data provided by Rightmove analysts. The Times wrote: “Alderley Edge, prime footballer belt, has been nicknamed the “Knightsbridge of the north” with a reputation for fine dining, bling and supercars in its position in Cheshire’s golden triangle of wealth. Famous residents over the years included the Beckhams, Cristiano Ronaldo and, currently, the Manchester City superstar Erling Haaland, while Coleen Rooney can regularly be found out shopping.”

They added: “The stream of Lamborghinis and Ferraris here has prompted a regular following on social media.”
Macclesfield Road is hailed as one of the village’s “most coveted locations, with mansions galore”. The most expensive house currently listed on Rightmove in Alderley Edge is a six-bedroom, ten-bathroom mansion on Macclesfield Road, priced at £12.5million with estate agents Jackson-Stops, reports Manchester Evening News.
Macclesfield Road has justified its title as the “Knightsbridge of the north” – being crowned the most expensive street outside of London, based on The Times’ top 20 listing. Winnington Road in Hampstead, London, tops the UK’s most expensive list, with an eye-watering average house price of £11.9 million.

As the MEN reported last month, Alderley Edge has witnessed substantial house price surges recently, becoming one of Cheshire’s most sought-after locales.
According to Rightmove, the average house price in the area triples the national average, hitting an astounding £823,000, and the average price for a detached home stands at £1.3 million. Just last year, prices soared by 11%, signifying the high demand for properties here.
Estate agents indicate that the greatest demand lies within the ‘mid-market’ segment, ranging from £800,000 to £1 million, as buyers are keen to secure an address in desirable Alderley Edge.
The village not only attracts celebrities, making paparazzi a common sight along the main London Road but also draws “supercar spotters”, especially over weekends.
These enthusiasts flock to photograph a lineup of extraordinary cars, such as a £1.5 million Bugatti Veyron, a £550,000 Lamborghini Aventador, or a £1.3 million Ferrari Competitizione.
Last weekend, car enthusiasts were treated to an exhilarating spectacle as a “Spring Driveway” event featured supercars rolling down London Road in a vibrant convoy, fuelling spotters with an extra dose of thrill.
This region isn’t just a hotspot for motor experts but also a prime location for family life, boasting top-notch educational institutions, expansive green spaces, and an array of unique businesses like a traditional butcher, an artisan baker, and a prize-winning fish and chip shop that’s even captured the palate of David Beckham.
However, signifying the area’s affluence, it’s home to luxe amenities such as diamond jewellers, high-end champagne bars, the £3million gastronomic haven San Carlo restaurant, and stands out as the singular village in Britain graced with a Flannels luxury clothing store.
