UK snow: Weather maps turn orange as huge 500-mile storm rips across Britain

New weather maps show a huge 500-mile storm is set to rip across Britain with heavy rain and snow.

WXCharts has forecast the storm to roll over the UK next week (March 27), moving from the southeast over much of the country.

The rain will hit the south of England in the morning, moving in a huge wall from Norfolk to Hampshire. It will be heaviest over London and Surrey.

It will then move north, over Birmingham, Manchester, Leeds and Newcastle through the afternoon, strongest along the east coast.

It will then end in Scotland, covering much of the country by midnight. The east coast (Edinburgh, Aberdeen) will see rain, while the rest (Inverness, Fort William, Dundee) will see heavy show with depths of up to 7cm an hour.

Temperatures could drop as low as -1C in north and central Scotland (Wick, Inverness, Aberdeen, Dundee). In south Scotland (Edinburgh, Glasgow, Dumfries, Galashiels), it will be around 2C.

Across Northern Ireland (Belfast, Derry) and the north of England (Newcastle, Middlesbrough, Lancaster), temperatures will sit between 1C and 3C.

The midlands (Manchester, Birmingham, Norwich) and Wales (Conwy, Cardiff), it should be around 3C, with lows of 0C. And the south of England (Plymouth, Southampton, London) will be up to 6C.
