UK snow maps show exact dates when almost everywhere gets blitzed by Arctic blast

Britain is set to be hit by a huge Arctic snow blast, according to the latest weather maps. A long stretch of cold weather conditions will likely batter the UK in the next few days after heavy snow showers have already hit several parts of the country.

Latest weather maps suggest that most parts of the UK will be covered with snow as the country enters the long spell of wintry days.

Maps from WXCharts show the north-eastern UK caked with snow as the temperature levels fall to -11C. The swift in the weather comes amid several yellow and amber warnings issued by the Met Office.

A yellow warning was issued this morning, from 4 am to 10 am, covering London and South East England, with both regions set for “a mix of sleet and snow showers” that will move in from the east and send temperatures tumbling “near zero”.

But according to the maps, the conditions are set to turn severe over the next week. Weather maps between January 16 and 22 show plunging temperatures and a week-long cold snap.

Scotland is expected to experience wintry weather, with widespread snowfall covering the region. By the afternoon of January 17, a 470-mile stretch of snow, extending from Wick to Scarborough, will sweep across Britain, intensifying the frosty conditions.

Most parts of Scotland will see snow, with areas like Inverness and Fort William expected to be covered in ice. Temperatures in these regions are projected to drop to -11C over the next few days.

On January 19, there is an expected snow depth ranging from 5 to 7 centimeters in the cities of Newcastle, Leeds, Manchester, Liverpool, Stoke, and Cardiff.

Minimum temperatures in these areas are forecasted to be between -2 to -3C. Colder conditions are anticipated, with temperatures dropping as low as -7 to -8C in and around Newcastle.

However, a bigger snow bomb will lash the parts of Britain as maps turn icy blue depicting heavy snow showers on that day. Areas around Inverness, Portree, and Fort William will witness 28cm of snow depth with minimum temperatures hovering around -6 to -7C. In England, snow is possible in areas close to New Castle and Manchester.

Weather experts have warned people to start preparing for the upcoming frosty conditions.

Jim Dale, a meterologist from British Weather Services told Express.co.uk: “The weather conditions seem normal and steady at the moment but by the next week, it’s going to turn cold. While there will be sporadic snow showers this week, it’s going to be different as we move on to the next week. Polar air from the south-west is likely to bring frost and ice and north-eastern areas of the country will be the worst hit.

“The whole of the UK is going to be covered with wintry snow with severe ice possibility in Scotland.

“It’s going to be a long stretch of cold weather so people need to start preparing for it. What we are going to see in the next week is going to be quite hazardous in terms of ice, which will come and go.

“In December, we did see some mild temperatures but January is going to be the first below-average month for this winter season.”

Today:

Any early morning fog clearing by midday. Variable cloud with sunny spells for many with the odd wintry shower across the southeast of England. Cold for most, but notably in the south in a fresh northeasterly breeze.

Outlook for Wednesday to Friday:
