Despite the sun making an appearance this week, weather maps predict snow could impact 43 counties next week. The entire UK east coast, stretching from Kent up to the Highlands of Scotland, will be impacted by snow or rain on Tuesday 11 March at midday, according to maps by WXCharts.
In the South and the Midlands, areas further inland will be hit the worst, with counties including Greater London, Oxfordshire, Northamptonshire, and Derbyshire expected to receive up to 1cm of snow per hour, indicated by grey on the map. Counties on the coast will instead be drenched in rain, affecting areas such as Norfolk, Suffolk and Lincolnshire, as the storm continues to fall over the North Sea. Further north, snow will stretch coast to coast from Cumbria and Lancashire right across to Northumberland, which is expected to fall at the same rate as further south.
Angus in Scotland could see the heaviest snowfall in the UK, indicated by a brighter white on the weather maps, while around 1-3cm is predicted throughout the country.
Again the East will be worst hit, starting at Scottish Borders up to the Highlands, although it may turn into rain in the very north.
Wales will get off with a light dusting over the county of Gwynedd on the northwest coast.
The Met Office predicts a “significant change” in weather as we move into next week, with much colder conditions to be expected.
It said: “A spell of rain will move south across the country on Monday, bringing a few wintry showers in the north/northeast.
“By Tuesday, we’ll start to see temperatures drop to below average across the UK. Rural spots in Scotland could see -4°C on Tuesday night, with a daytime maximum temperature typically between 5-8°C.”
