Ne weather maps have revealed the UK is set for a major snowstorm, with a significant snow barrage expected to hit parts of the country with temperatures also plunging.
The latest winter overview map from WXCharts for March 16 indicates a widespread impact, particularly across Scotland, northern England, and parts of Wales.
The snow depth chart indicates that areas in Scotland could see accumulations of up to 25cm (10 inches) or more, while northern England and parts of Wales may experience 5-15cm (2-6 inches) of snowfall.
According to the WXCharts forecast, areas expected to bear the brunt of the snowfall include Scotland, where heavy snow accumulation is forecasted for the Highlands, with Inverness, Aberdeen, and Edinburgh set to experience thick snow coverage.
Cities in Northern England such as Newcastle, Manchester, and Leeds will see snowfall, potentially leading to travel disruptions.
Weather maps show temperatures could plunge to as low as -7C in areas of central Scotland at around midday on March 16, dominated by a band of freezing weather from the Arctic.
In Wales and the Midlands, parts of Cardiff, Birmingham, and surrounding regions may also receive a snow covering, with ice and freezing conditions likely.
Snowfall is less certain in southern England, but cold weather and icy conditions could still create hazardous conditions.
A Met Office long-range forecast for March 15 to March 29 said: “The middle of March is most-likely going to be quite changeable and unsettled with spells of rain and strong winds in most areas, especially the north and west, with rainfall amounts probably above average.
“Some drier interludes are also likely between time though, especially in the south and east, and temperatures on the whole will be a little above average.
“Later in the month, there are signs that high pressure to the south could start to dominate once again, with extended dry and bright conditions perhaps developing more widely.”
