Britain is bracing for an Arctic blast next week, with fresh weather maps showing significant snowfall expected across multiple counties. The latest forecasts indicate a cold snap sweeping in from the north, bringing widespread wintry conditions from Thursday, March 13.
According to the WXCharts weather model, parts of Scotland, Northern Ireland, northern England, and the Midlands are set to see heavy snowfall and freezing conditions. Inverness, Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Newcastle, Manchester, and Birmingham are among the major cities expected to be affected.
The Arctic air mass, travelling southwards, is forecasted to bring strong winds and sub-zero temperatures, with snow depths reaching up to 10cm in certain areas.
The coldest conditions are expected in Scotland and northern England, where wintry showers could accumulate quickly.
The blast will affect a distance of 647 miles from Wick in Scotland to Cardiff in Wales.
Meteorologists warn that this Arctic blast could send temperatures plummeting well below freezing, especially overnight.
Coupled with brisk winds, the wind chill factor will make it feel even colder.
The Met Office has yet to issue official warnings, but prepare for icy roads and possible disruptions to transport networks.
The snowfall is expected to impact the following counties the most:
- Scotland – Highland, Aberdeenshire, Perth and Kinross, and the Borders
- Northern England – Northumberland, Cumbria, County Durham, and Yorkshire
- Midlands – Staffordshire, Derbyshire, and Shropshire
- Northern Ireland – Antrim and Down
Further south, London, Cardiff, and Southampton may avoid heavy snowfall, but freezing temperatures and icy conditions are still likely to pose a challenge for commuters.
The snow is expected to persist through the end of next week, with further wintry showers possible into the weekend.
