UK snow latest: New weather maps show giant 251-mile blanket over Britain

Put away your picnic blanket and grab your coat, winter may not be over just yet. Despite it feeling positively balmy over last week or so for some areas of the country, interspersed with some seasonal rain, one forecaster appears to be predicting snowfall in the UK next week.

It’s essential to note that the Met Office is not predicting any such thing in its long-range forecast, and maintains that predicting snow more than two days out from the date in question is unreliable.

However, according to WX Charts, a large chunck of Britain may be in for snowfall on April 4.

The forecaster’s radar shows a 251-mile stretch of snow from the south coast all the way up to the Lake District in Cumbria. It is also predicting a separate band of snow blanketing the north east of England.

Although it is not predicting snow like WX Charts’ radar, the Met Office does forecast an “unsettled” week following the Easter weekend.

According to the national forecaster: “All areas are likely to see further rain or showers at times, with some drier spells in between, but wet weather will tend to favour the south whilst northern parts remain a bit drier on average.”

Although it’s never pleasant to hear that Britain’s due for some blustery conditions, winter’s transition into spring normally brings about some tumultuous conditions.

The Met Office may revise its snow prediction closer to next week, as its experts say that snow forecasting is only accurate at short range.

Today:

Largely cloudy today with outbreaks of rain moving into the south this afternoon. A few brighter spells possible at times. Rain and hill snow in Scotland will gradually ease. Feeling chilly in the north.

Tonight:

Rain and hill snow will spread into northern areas tonight. Clear spells will develop in the south for a time, before further rain moves into the southwest.

Wednesday:

Spells of rain will move north and east on Wednesday with some brightness in between. Heavy, blustery showers will move into Wales and southwest England later in the afternoon.

Outlook for Thursday to Saturday:

Sunny spells and heavy scattered showers over the next few days. Windy on Thursday and Friday, but winds easing into the weekend. Feeling chilly in the brisk winds.
