UK snow latest: Met Office reveals exact date Arctic blast could bring snow to Britain

Snow is set to fall on the UK in the coming days but not until the weekend according to the country’s Met Office.

Winter is set to return with a vengeance from Sunday Janaury 14 onwards when snow will really start to take hold in Scotland before spreading to the rest of Britain next week.

Despite temperatures plunging to as low as -11C in some areas yesterday, the white stuff is not likely to make a prodigious appearance for another few days.

The Met Office said even with “Arctic air” remaining for most of the week, there was “no snow or rain” expected until the weekend

The Mirror reports a spokesperson for the weather agency said: “The cool, Arctic air will remain for most of the week. So it will be pretty benign if not cold until Sunday.

“It will be cool and dry, though, with no snow and largely no rain expected today and tomorrow. It’ll be around 5C for some parts of the south tomorrow, slightly warmer in the north.”

Weather maps from WXCharts show snow arriving in Scotland on Sunday January 14, with the country also still bathed in the deep blues of freezing temperatures.

The Met Office spokesperson added: “The cold pool of air will remain into next week. As we move into next week, the air flow will continue and as we get later into the week, there is a chance of snow as cold air meets hot air.

“There may be snow as soon as Sunday, particularly in coastal areas of Scotland and potentially areas along the North Sea coast in northeast England.

“It’ll be gusty elsewhere from Sunday, with wind speeds of up to 50 to 55 knots (58-63mph) across the Shetland Islands.”

Light snow has fallen in parts of London and the South East over the last few days but nothing compared to the amounts seen in Europe where hundreds of drivers were left stranded on motorways around Paris, France, on Monday night.
