UK shoppers warned about popular foods contaminated with moth larvae and E.coli

Moth larvae could be hatching on Daylesford Organic Rye, Spelt and Raisin Crispbread in addition to Daylesford Organic Savoury Biscuit Selection.

The FSA cautioned that the presence of moth larvae makes these products “unsafe to eat”, which is why it is being recalled. Daylesford Organic, which has a farm in the Cotswolds and four shops in London, put out a request to its customers.

Daylesford Organic said: “If you have bought any… do not open or eat them. Return the product(s) to the store for a full refund (with or without a receipt). Contact our Guest Services team for a full refund.”

Online grocers Ocado also stock the crispbreads, which should not be consumed for safety reasons because of the possible presence of moth larvae.

In a similar vein, Chiltern Artisan – another farm in the UK – recalled Chilli Sticks due to the possible presence of E. Coli in the food product.

The FSA cautioned about the possible presence of “Shiga toxin-producing E. coli” that can lead to upsetting symptoms if eaten by anybody.

Food poisoning can lead to severe bloody diarrhoea and uncomfortable abdominal pain, and can even be fatal in small children. The toxin can lead to haemolytic uremic syndrome, which is a serious condition that can lead to kidney failure.

The FSA added: “The use-by date is also not displayed on the product packaging, making the product unsafe to eat.”

The Home Taste Suya Mix contains illegal dyes Orange II, Rhodamine B and Sudan I, which are not approved for food use in the UK.
