UK prepares to strike Houthi rebels in Yemen as Rishi Sunak holds emergency Cabinet call

Britain is preparing to strike against Houthi rebels in Yemen following attacks on shipping in the Red Sea, it is understood.

Rishi Sunak is holding a Cabinet call at 7.45pm today to discuss the crisis.

It comes after Defence Secretary Grant Shapps yesterday hinted that the UK and Western allies could take action against Iranian-backed Houthis if attacks in the Red Sea continue.

UK and US naval forces on Tuesday downed 21 drones and missiles in the Red Sea in what was believed to be the largest attack yet from the Yemen-based force.

Mr Shapps warned that further action would be taken if attacks persist amid growing global concern about the disruption in the key global shipping route.
