UK cold weather: Snow and ice bomb to blast Britain this week as maps show areas hit


Parts of Britain are set to be battered by a huge snow and ice bomb, as well as a blast of heavy rain later this week. The latest weather maps have turned white and purple with snow, starting in the very north of Scotland down to Manchester, the Midlands and Wales later this week.

According to WXCharts, the deluge is due to arrive at midnight on Saturday, March 23.

According to the WX Charts map, the heaviest snow will be around Fort William in the Western Scottish Highlands.

Other areas of the Scottish Highlands are due to take the brunt of the weather, claims the forecaster’s radar.

Ahead of March 23, there are 12 flood alerts in place for England for March 19.

Flooding in areas of the south west, such as near Bere Stream in Dorset, currently have warnings in place from the Environment Agency.

Meanwhile Natural Resources Wales has two flood alerts in South Pembrokeshire and Lower Towy.

Today:

Cloud and some showery rain will continue to move southeast across England and Wales, dying out during the afternoon. Otherwise, a lot of dry weather with some sunshine. Mostly mild and winds easing through the day.

Tonight:

Any showers gradually easing, but turning cloudy in the southwest as rain moves northeast overnight. Remaining dry with clear spells in Scotland and a rural frost. Mild elsewhere.

Wednesday:

Outbreaks of rain in central areas clearing eastwards on Wednesday. Dry elsewhere with a few showers in the far north. Temperatures closer to average, but mild in the southeast.

Outlook for Thursday to Saturday:

Remaining changeable on Thursday with outbreaks of rain at times, interspersed by some brighter spells. Becoming windy later, then colder with sunshine and blustery showers on Friday and Saturday.

Headline:

Dry for most with further rain later. Mild.
