Parts of Britain are likely to be blasted by the freezing weather, as the latest weather maps have turned icy blue, indicating the possibility of low temperatures.
According to the weather maps from WXCharts, prepared using Metdesk data, wintry conditions are likely to hit several parts of the UK, with some areas witnessing temperatures plummeting to -4C.
The maps for February 9 suggest that areas such as Wick, Inverness, Portree, Edinburgh, Newcastle, Cardiff, Manchester and Plymouth are most likely to be impacted by the cold snap.
However, the weather maps suggest that areas around Cardiff may see the lowest temperatures at -4C.
While the areas in Scotland such as Wick, Portree, Fort William, Inverness may see temperature levels oscillating between -3C to -2C, the maps show.
Brian Gaze, founder of The Weather Outlook, explained the reason behind the cold conditions.
He told Express.co.uk: “There are growing signs pointing to a colder spell developing from around 5th February, with high pressure over Scandinavia driving an easterly wind across western Europe.
“Despite lengthening days, mid-February is often the UK’s coldest time of winter, so a return to wintry conditions wouldn’t be surprising.
“Easterly winds often bring the harshest weather to southern counties, meaning this time southern Britain could bear the brunt – unlike January’s cold spell, which hit the north hardest.”
The Met Office’s long-range forecast between February 4 and 13 reads: “Periods of wet weather are likely to affect northwestern parts of the UK at times, particularly early in this period.
“Some heavy rain is possible and this is likely to be accompanied by spells of strong winds. South of this, across the rest of the UK, it is likely to be more settled and whilst some rain can’t be ruled out at times, there is likely to be plenty of dry weather through this period.
“Winds will be lighter and this will bring the risk of overnight frost and fog.
“Overall, temperatures will be close to normal for most, but it is likely to be mild at times in the northwest. Brief colder spells are likely here in between weather systems though.”
