A regional airline is expected to scrap two routes from a UK city to destinations in Norway. Loganair is currently in talks over direct routes from Newcastle Airport to the Norwegian cities of Bergen and Stavanger.

The Glasgow-based airline was reportedly in talks over five routes, including the two between Newcastle and the two cities in Norway. Three of the five are believed to be retained.

These are domestic routes between Newcastle and Southampton, Exeter and Newquay. Loganair passengers will still be able to take flights to Bergen from Edinburgh and Sumburgh in the Orkney Islands.

The Express understands the Bergen and Stavanger routes could end on January 4, subject to discussions over the airline’s 2026 schedule.

It is anticipated that there won’t be any job losses as a result of the changes, which would be permanent. Staff affected will be redeployed to other locations or roles across the business.

Loganair operates one flight per week from Newcastle to Bergan and Stavanger. The domestic routes would be unaffected by any changes as they “remain very popular”, a source close to Loganair said.

The news comes after Loganair launched a new route between Edinburgh and Guernsey in May.

Summer flights between the Scottish capital and island in the English Channel run once a week until the beginning of September.

You can catch a flight at 4.10pm in Edinburgh and arrive in Guernsey by 6.10pm. The return journey leaves Guernsey at 6.40pm and should land in Edinburgh by 8.45pm.
