VISALIA, Calif. – A 16-year-old boy and a 20-year-old clerk are dead after an attempted robbery at a liquor store in California sparked a shootout, police say.
Police said officers were called around 11 p.m. local time Sunday to an EZ Mart Liquor Store in Visalia, about 40 miles southeast of Fresno, for a report of a shooting at a shopping center.
When officers arrived, they found a 16-year-old-boy in the parking lot who had been shot. The boy was rushed to Kaweah Health Medical Center, where he died.
A 20-year-old clerk was shot and killed inside the store, officers with the Visalia Police Department said.

Violent crimes detectives said the 16-year-old boy tried to rob the store. The store clerk and the teenager exchanged gunfire and shot at each other multiple times, according to police.
The names of the people killed were not released by detectives.
Detectives are asking for the public’s help for information on this case. It’s possible others were involved.
