Stainless steel is commonly used to make our household appliances, from refrigerators and stove tops to thermoses and water bottles.

The shiny silver material is touted for its ability to retain temperatures, whether using it to store ice water or hot soup.

It is also touted by the sustainability-concerned crowd because it is not known to be harmful to the environment or human health.

Unlike plastic, which is known to pollute the Earth due to its inability to break down and use of planet-warning fumes such as gas, oil and coal to produce, as well as disrupt the natural functioning of the human body.

However, stainless steal is also prone to attract dust, fingerprints and grease, which makes regular cleaning a necessity. Here are two eco-friendly affordable cleaning hacks to make your stainless steel products sparkle.

1. Vinegar and olive oil

In addition to using common household items to make a salad dressing, it is also an effective DIY stainless steel cleaner, according to House Beautiful.

Cleaning experts recommending filling a spray bottle with white vinegar and generously spraying it on the stainless steel appliance and then wiping down the surface with a microfiber cloth.

Then, to make it sparkle and shine, dip the cloth in olive oil and use a back-and-forth motion to apply it to the surface, following the stainless steel grain.

2. Club soda

This hack has been passed down in families for generation for good reason. Not only is it known as an cheap and effective clothing or carpet and furniture stain remover, it can also polish stainless steel.

Cleaning experts recommend filling a spray bottle with club soda and applying it to the appliance. Then, wipe it down with a microfiber cloth in the direction of the stainless steel grain to get desired result.
