Media personality TT Torrez accused DJ Funkmaster “Funk” Flex, her former colleague at HOT 97, of “shoving her violently” during an altercation that took place inside the Delta Lounge at Madison Square Garden for the Knicks’ home opener Tuesday night.
In an official statement through her rep, Torrez, who left New York City’s Hot 97 last year, alleged “a verbal altercation between her husband and Funk Flex escalated into a physical confrontation” during which Funk Flex assaulted her.
Torrez explained that her husband was defending her and that the video of the altercation circulating online doesn’t tell the full story of the alleged harassment she has been dealing behind the scenes for years from Funk Flex.
Torrez, who described the incident as a “deeply disturbing and traumatic experience,” filed an online police report about the incident that same night, her rep told TMZ.
“Mrs. Torrez has endured years of ongoing harassment, intimidation and bulling by her former colleague,” the statement from Now PR said. “She chose not to speak publicly and instead addressed these matters professionally and through the appropriate legal channels. That process ultimately resulted in a settlement with Mediaco Hot 97 and a non-disparagement agreement, which Funkmaster Flex has continued to violate. The events of October 20 were a painful continuation of what she has been dealing with privately.
“The brief video circulating online does not tell the full story. What the public saw was a husband defending his wife and does not reflect the years Mrs. Torrez spent working to resolve this matter with dignity, professionalism and the guidance of her legal team. Her experience should not be reduced to social media entertainment.”
Torrez said she will continue to address the matter through her legal counsel, and will not comment further.
“We thank Madison Square Garden for stepping in and immediately removing Funkmaster Flex from the building and we ask that the media and the public respect Mrs. Torrez’s privacy as this matter proceeds through the appropriate proper legal channels,” the statement concluded.
Torrez appeared to walk behind her husband as he was being escorted out of the Delta Lounge.
Funk Flex took to social media early Wednesday to deny rumors he was punched, and suggest there is more to the story than the video showed.
He alleged a man who worked at a record label threw a drink at him and wanted to be punched first so he could sue Funk Flex.
In another Instagram story, Funk Flex said he loves “the narrative” of the punch, before adding: “His team got an open case against me! We smarter than that!”
Funk Flex said he plans on discussing the incident on Thursday’s Hot 97 show at 7 p.m.
The 58-year-old rapper, as well as Torrez, were at the Garden for the Knicks’ ring and banner ceremony commemorating their NBA championship from last season.
The Knicks lost to LeBron James and the 76ers, 106-100.
