It can be very disappointing to pull a white garment out of the wash to find the stain you wanted to remove is still there. Even worse is when you think the stain is gone, but once the clothing item dries, the stain has returned. This is even more frustrating when you have used a stain remover product.
Coming to the rescue is Chantel Mila, who likes to share home top tips on her TikTok channel. She said knowing this laundry hack “will make your life so much easier” because it can “remove tough stains on whites.”
To make the powerful stain-removing solution, you need to soak the white garment in warm water, a quarter cup of (3%) hydrogen peroxide and one cup of baking soda. “Wash as usual, and the stains disappear,” Chantel promised.
“For quick whitening, add some dish washing liquid onto a towel and place it in with your white washing to brighten them instantly,” she added.
Another laundry hack to help brighten and whiten white garments involves eradicating any yellow underarm stains that may have developed.
You can do this by mixing one cup of 3% hydrogen peroxide and one tablespoon of dish soap “in a dark spray bottle”.
Chantel then advises people to spray the underarm stains with the solution and leave it to sit for “20 minutes” before adding it to a normal wash.
How to remove fake tan stains
If you need to remove fake tan stains, for example, then the laundry experts at Molly Maid have shared their expertise.
On bedsheets, it’s important to rinse with cold water first, then soak in a solution of warm water and liquid dish soap to bloat the stain, working the outer edges inwards.
“Rinse the area well with cold water and launder as usual by using a heavy-duty detergent,” the experts added.
If the stain remains, soak it overnight in a solution of cold water and “oxygen-based bleach mixed according to package directions.” Repetition might be required.
Removing fake tan from clothes
In essence, the faster you address the stain, the more likely it is to come out of the clothing item. “Self-tanner is an oil-based product with added dye, and both components must be addressed separately using different methods,” the experts explained.
First, remove the oil by running the garment under cold water and then soak it in a bowl of warm water and dish soap. Rinse with cold water and then put the garment in the wash as per usual; repeated washes might be needed.
