Total solar eclipse: Stunning moment Niagara Falls descends into darkness

Niagara Falls was plunged into darkness when the solar eclipse reached totality across the area next to Buffalo, New York.

The incredible moment stunned hundreds of watchers.

It was North America’s biggest eclipse audience ever, with a couple hundred million people living in or near the shadow’s path, plus scores of out-of-towners flocking in.

Clouds blanketed most of Texas as the total solar eclipse began its diagonal dash across land, starting along Mexico’s mostly clear Pacific coast and aiming for Texas and 14 other US States, before exiting into the North Atlantic near Newfoundland.

Daily Express US reporter Jerry Hassel, who was in Niagara Falls during peak totality, said: “As totality approached at Niagara Falls State Park, the temperature noticeably dropped as the amount of sunlight decreased…”
