Top 10 used hybrids and EVs as popular model now 42% cheaper

Drivers thinking about getting behind the wheel of an affordable used car that is friendly to the environment has been urged to consider 10 popular models that are falling in price. April is widely considered to be one of the best times to sell a used car, with supply of pre-owned models typically much lower than when the new number plate launches in March. As a result, drivers can get considerably more when they put their car up for sale.

However according to data from the AA Used Car Index, the pre-owned hybrid or electric model with the highest number of searches during the first quarter of 2025 was the Toyota Yaris.

Despite traditionally being a petrol-powered model from the original model’s launch in 1999, the latest generation of the Toyota Yaris is available with a full hybrid that helps to boost the model’s fuel economy and driving style.

According to AA Cars, the average used Toyota Yaris Hybrid has a value of £15,386 – a significant drop of 14% compared to 12 months prior.

Drivers looking for a used hybrid that is more practical as a family car have also been urged to consider the Toyota Prius – commonly seen as the model that made hybrid cars popular.

Five generations of the sleek five-door family liftback model have been produced since 1997, with the model’s near-legendary track record for build quality and reliability. As a result, many examples have been used as taxis.

AA Cars highlighted that the Prius saw one of the most significant reduction in prices, with the typical example priced at £10,067 in the first quarter of 2025 – a staggering 42 percent reduction.

However, not all of the most-searched-for used electric and hybrid cars were made by Toyota, with AA Cars highlighting that many drivers were interested in buying a pre-owned Honda Jazz.

Another Japanese model with a long-running name, the latest generation of the entry-level Honda can only be bought with a full hybrid powertrain which produces 120bhp.

Whilst drivers can get an earlier petrol-powered Jazz for significantly less, AA Cars noted that the average hybrid version sold for £17,083 during the first quarter of 2025 – down a mere 4% in a year.
