Tom Kerridge has been slammed after unleashing fury on one customer who complained about paying £32 for his fish and chips. Mr Kerridge has been known in the past for charging premium prices for his meals, but one diner wasn’t impressed.
Underneath one of Mr Kerridge’s Instagram posts about his fish and chips, one person said it looked “like something you’d get in the frozen aisle”. Responding to this comment, Mr Kerridge said: “Sad post mate. Cheer up buddy, say something nice, don’t be a d***. It’s not a good look.”
Mr Kerridge’s response did not go down well with users. One said: “I’m really disappointed to see Tom act like this. So rude. People are entitled to their opinion. He’s sadly gone way down in my estimation.” Another commented: “I usually respect you but that’s also a d*** reply. His opinion is valid whether you like it or not, it looks average, wasteful.”
Mr Kerridge had been defending his dish on Instagram when the incident occurred. In the post, he said: “I know my fish & chips are always a hot topic, and in my opinion, you absolutely can’t beat a good fish and chippy tea. The fish & chips at @kerridgesbandg is a real crowd-pleaser. But if you’d rather give them a go yourself, check out my recipe.”
The high price of Mr Kerridge’s version of the iconic British dish has amazed people online who have expressed their dismay and shock at how much people are being asked to pay.
One person exclaimed: “Looks like a deep-fried nappy.” A second user said: “Sorry now but I could make that at home myself for less than £5 and make it look better. How are people paying almost £40 for this.” Another commented: “Tom you’re a talented man, there’s no doubt about it. But come on, lower your prices. We’re in a cost of living crisis after all.”
While a large number of people believed Mr Kerridge’s product was overpriced, there were several people who believed it was worth every penny. One user said Mr Kerridge’s dish was “the best fish and chips I’ve ever had in my life.”
