Toilets ‘thick with limescale’ need just one item to remove buildup – you'll be ‘shocked’

Limescale buildup is a fact of life for most households, it simply cannot be avoided.

Whether it’s your toilet or other fixtures in your kitchen or bathroom, limescale build-up can be unsightly and difficult to remove, especially from the toilet.

With so many different products on the market these days, it can be hard to know where to begin.

However, one cleaning fan has tried out one toilet cleaner that has left them “shocked” by the results.

Posting anonymously to the Mrs Hinch Army Cleaning Tips Facebook page, they said: “I wrote in here a while back about the toilet that’s in the property that I’ve moved into. And I must say. Black Harpic saved my toilet.

“I didn’t think it was even saveable. I tried all sorts before I used it overnight and it was so easy. Posting for other people that may have similar problems.”

The product used was the Harpic Power Plus Toilet Cleaner Gel that retails for £1.50 in Sainsbury’s and £1.65 from Asda.

The Mrs Hinch fan also shared before and after pictures. In the before photo, the bottom of the toilet bowl was completely brown and in the second photo, the toilet bowl was entirely white with no stains left behind.

Taking to the comments section, the user continued sharing their thoughts on the product.

The said: “I honestly tried so many things. I had never had to deal with a toilet like that before. I tried Domestos tablets, bleach and Elbow Grease toilet cleaner. The only thing that worked was the black Harpic.”

When asked how she used the product, the cleaning fan replied: “I removed as much as the water as possible first. The smell wasn’t nice coming from the trap but so worth it.”

Posting a photo of the toilet cleaner, the user said: “Make sure it’s this one. Remove as much water as possible using a mop, cup or whatever you can and use the whole bottle.

“Leave overnight. I then used a Scrub Mommy, which can be picked up from Amazon for £13.99 for a pack of four, to remove the limescale the next day. I was shocked as honestly, it was so thick with limescale.”

Fellow group members were impressed by the result that the toilet cleaner gave. Nina Powell wrote: “You have done a good job with that. It looks like new.”

Cali Hill said: “I love this Harpic toilet cleaner the limescale comes straight off with it.”

Leesa Clare commented: “Wow that worked so well. I need to give that stuff a go on my toilet.”
