Parts of New York will see heavy rain and possible thunderstorms Monday after millions of Americans were under Air Quality Alerts along the East Coast and in the state, the National Weather Service said.
After multiple states were under red flag warnings this past week, only New Mexico is under the warning Monday, the weather service said. Meanwhile, daily high-temperature records could be broken in Texas.
Here’s what to know about Monday’s weather forecast:
Rain, thunderstorms in parts of New York, Colorado, Wyoming, Kansas
Parts of the Mid-Atlantic, including areas in New York, will see rain and thunderstorms Monday, the weather service said.
“These areas have also been very dry this spring, and the rains are expected to be beneficial, however there may be some localized small stream and urban flash flooding concerns where the heaviest rains set up,” the weather service said.
The Storm Prediction Center indicates a “slight risk” of excessive rainfall in eastern Colorado, which can stretch from southeast Wyoming to western Kansas Monday.
Red flag warning in New Mexico
The National Weather Service in El Paso, Texas, has issued a red flag warning for parts of Southwest New Mexico from noon to 9 p.m. local time Monday.
A “red flag warning” means weather conditions in the area are ripe for the spread of wildfires due to a combination of strong winds, low relative humidity, and dry fuels.
“On Monday, breezy conditions redevelop during the afternoon, setting the stage for another day of low-end red flag conditions for the lowlands of southern New Mexico,” the weather service said.
Daily high temperatures could be broken in Texas
Over the next several days, Texas will see highs into the upper 90s and triple digits in most areas, the weather service said. Daily high-temperature records could be broken by Tuesday.
“Residents are advised to take this early summer heat seriously and follow proper heat safety,” the weather service said.
The Pacific Northwest will also see highs in the low 90s, which will be 20 degrees above average.
