Roald Dahl enthusiasts are eagerly anticipating Netflix’s take on the beloved author’s 1980 masterpiece, helmed by producer and director Phil Johnston.

The animated feature centres on Mr and Mrs Twit, characterised as “the meanest, smelliest, nastiest people in the world”, who possess and run the globe’s most perilous and absurd theme park: Twitlandia.

The official summary states: “When the Twits rise to power in their town, two brave children – Beesha and Bubsy – and a family of magical Muggle-Wumps, are forced to become as tricky as the Twits in order to save the city.”

Vanguard Animation initially held responsibility for the feature film adaptation, however in April 2022, after Netflix’s purchase of the Roald Dahl Story Company, it was confirmed the picture would debut on their platform.

Here’s everything you need to know about the movie including the release date, cast and more.

The Twits is set to premiere on October 17 and boasts a runtime of 98 minutes.

American viewers should gain access from midnight, whilst British audiences will need to wait until 8am.

Mr and Mrs Twit receive vocal performances from Johnny Vegas and Margo Martindale respectively.

Michael Joseph Pennington, professionally recognised as Johnny Vegas, is an English performer and comic celebrated for Benidorm and Still Open All Hours.

Margo Martindale is an American thespian renowned for portraying Mags Bennett in Justified and Claudia in The Americans. Star Wars and Black Swan actress Natalie Portman lends her voice to Mary Muggle-Wump, while Game of Thrones icon Emilia Clarke voices Pippa.

The children – Beesha and Bubsy – are brought to life by the voices of Maitreyi Ramakrishnan and Ryan Lopez. Maitreyi is recognised for her leading role in Never Have I Ever.

The remaining cast includes:

Jason Mantzoukas as Mayor Wayne John John-John

Timothy Simons as Marty Muggle-Wump

Alan Tudyk as Sweet Toed Toad

Nicole Byer as Beverly Onion

Mark Proksch as Horvis Dungle

Rebecca Wisocky as Dee Dumdie-Dungle

Charlie Berens as Gorb Klurb

The Twits will be released on Netflix on October 17
