A common home upgrade could add tens of thousands of pounds to the value of your house, an expert has revealed. There are many ways to increase the value of your home, the most common being increasing the space inside your home by adding on an extenstion. Some people also convert their lofts into bedrooms to add value, something that is more than effective when it comes to selling a house.
However, there are plenty of other ways you can add value to your home – and one of them is a common home renovation project. Storage experts at Space Station partnered with Abi Hookway, property expert, and Niall Robinson, sales valuer at Paramount Properties, to share home improvements that can add thousands to the value of British homes. One of Robinson’s top tips can add up to £20,000 to the value of your home, he revealed. This common renovation project can be done quite cost effectively and can have huge benefits.
He revealed that redoing the flooring in your home can add huge value to your house, saying: “One of the easiest but most significant upgrades you can make to a home is the flooring.
“The right choice can make a huge difference to how a place feels, so bear in mind the type of flooring and colour you choose. For example, adding laminate flooring to a £350k one-bed with can increase its value up to £375k.”
Laminate flooring is often considered a budget-friendly option for homeowners and is available in a range of styles, patterns and colours across the UK.
Another top tip for adding value to your home, Robinson says, is to convert your loft space.
He explained: “House extensions are a great way to add value, but with installation costs so high now, they don’t always bring the return they used to, and sometimes it’s just not worth it.
“Instead, consider a loft extension, as they are one of the easiest investments that will directly improve your home’s profit, especially in city centres.
“Any way you can increase the space inside your property will raise its value, especially if you can grow the number of rooms without decreasing space in the original floorplan. You can expect to see a healthy 10%-20% profit added to your home’s value.”
The potential profits suggested by these experts were calculated based on the average UK house price in 2025, which is currently £267,500.
