A suburb in Kent has been named one of the UK’s latest property hotspots after seeing the biggest rise in people looking to buy a house in the area. Kearsney in Dover has had a 77 percent increase people applying to purchase a property there.
The small suburb, next to the villages of Temple Ewell and River, is just two miles from Dover town centre, making it an ideal location for those looking to benefit from the town’s unique transport links across to Europe.
It is home to stunning Kearsney Abbey which comprises a country house featuring beautiful gardens. The area has, in recent years, enjoyed refurbishment and is especially popular with dog walkers and families.
The River Dour also runs through the suburb, providing water for heritage flour and paper mills that are based in the village. And, it even benefits from its own train station, with direct trains to London taking just over two hours.
While it’s one of Dover’s more picturesque residential areas, it actually remains one of the most affordable in Kent and beyond to buy a home. Dover is regularly dubbed a cheaper than average place to buy up.
The average house price being £321,460. There are a number of nearby beauty hotspots, including Russell Gardens, opposite Kearsney, which are open all year round and make the ideal dog walking spot.
There is also a booming tea room that serves up a range of hot drinks as well as pastries, cakes and snacks for those looking for a bite to eat.
Across the country overall, there were 12 percent fewer people registering to buy properties between January to November 2023 compared to the same period last year – according to Hamptons estate agents.
Following behind Kearsney is Airdrie in Scotland with a 72 percent rise. East Ham, London, was third with 71 percent and Baillieston – a suburb of Glasgow – was fourth.
Trains directly into Dover cost just £3.30 and take five minutes – making it the perfect spot for those working in the town centre. Otherwise, it is a 15 minute walk into the centre where there’s a cinema and new shopping centre, named St James’.
For seaside lovers, Dover has a gorgeous pebbled beach next to its Eastern Docks where people can sit and watch the ferries coming and going across the Channel.
