The ‘posh’ UK village among the UK’s most prized spots – £2.2m homes | UK | News

Found nestled along on the south coast of Cornwall’s stunning Roseland Peninsula, you will find this magical spot that’s highly desired thanks to its exquisite position. This thriving fishing village has long held a strong attraction among the wealthy and tourists alike who embark on this chocolate-box region to soak up plenty of adventures, offering visitors endless views across the Fal estuary to Falmouth. It’s also a firm favourite among sailors thanks to its ideal sailing waters found along the Carrick Roads with a thriving community and eye-watering property prices.

In fact, according to Rightmove, the average house prices here in St Mawes come at a region of a cool £2.2 million but with beauty in bucket loads, it’s easy to see why they’re so high. So beautiful in fact, The Times recently named St Mawes as its “most beautiful places to visit in England” with “something for everyone along its shoreline”.

St Mawes is a village in the eastern side of Falmouth harbour, on the south coast of Cornwall and is  home to roughly 719 residents.

The Roseland Peninsula begins at this posh fishing village offering visitors here tranquil spots with coastal beauty and unspoiled landscapes seemingly in every corner.

The peninsula is also found between St Austell and Truro which is separated from the rest of Cornwall by the River Fa and is an area designated as being an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Along this peninsula you will be met with large secluded sandy beaches, a rich tapestry of rural fields to explore, even providing magical creeks to idle the hours away surrounded by natural beauty.

St Mawes was also put on the map thanks to its ideal sailing waters offering adventure seekers tranquil conditions among its many inland rural nooks.

Beach lovers are in their element here too with Towan beach coming in highly recommended thanks to its glorious stretch of sand which somehow manages to evade the crowds with a maze of rock pools to enjoy here too when low tide hits.

With so much on offer it’s easy to see why real estate is a hot topic in St Mawes with its highest sold selling for £7.5 million and was said to be Gordon Ramsay’s stop-gap home he used while waiting for his mansion to be built.

The Times wrote: “You don’t travel to Cornwall for the towns — unless they’re wedged up a creek or spilling into a bay.

“It’s the coast that counts, either the north for the wild and dramatic, or the south for the creeks and headlands.”

It added that “in this part of Cornwall, the spring gardens of Trelissick and Caerhays are ablaze with magnolias and camellias well before the rest of the country.”

The village even boasts of its own castle, St Mawes Castle, and includes its sister fortress, Pendennis Castle which was built by Henry VIII in order to guard the important anchorage of Carrick Roads.

St Mawes is also home to a 13th-century church, Roseland Church, and is Cornwall’s most visited church which sits within breathtaking gardens beside a tranquil tidal creek and is ideal for those quiet moments.

“St Mawes is a very pretty place and the Quayside and harbour areas are very worthwhile visiting,” wrote one review on TripAdvisor.

Adding: “Backed by cafes, pubs and a nice range of shops whilst seaward the far reaching views stretch back to Falmouth are all true delights.”
