One of the Duchess of Sussex’s best friends, Mindy Kaling, has unveiled the contents of a text she received from Meghan Markle ahead of the filming of the US-based royal’s new Netflix show.
The actress was walking the red carpet at the Golden Globes this week, when she elaborated on her friendship with The Duchess of Sussex and why she appeared in Meghan’s upcoming trailer for her cooking show, titled ‘With Love, Meghan’.
Kaling recalled to a reporter on the red carpet the simple eight-word text received from Meghan: “Do you want to be in my show?”
The former US Office TV star said: “I think I was two months postpartum and [Meghan] texted me and was like, ‘Do you want to be in my show?'”
She added: “When you hang out with Meghan, you know the food is going to be good.”
Meghan’s friend continued: “I was like, ‘I’ll come to Montecito and have you cook for me and go to your garden,’ and that’s what we did.”
Kaling also added that while Meghan’s husband, Prince Harry, didn’t cook for her, she’s heard “he’s actually a pretty good cook”.
In the trailer for her show, Meghan serves her friend a slice of cake and during the exchange, she declares it is probably one of the “most glamorous” moments of her life.
In 2022, Kaling appeared as a guest on Meghan’s Spotify ‘Archetypes’ podcast, when Meghan praised Kaling as “candid, genuine and really funny.”
When the show drops on Netflix on January 15, the series will consist of eight episodes. In the Netflix clip, which is set to the 1960s hit “Do You Believe in Magic,” Meghan cooks her favourite recipes, buys flowers from a shop, and is even seen taking care of bees in a beekeeper suit.
In one snippet, Meghan is also seen cheerfully embracing her husband, Prince Harry, and having a laugh with friends including former Suits co-star, Abigail Spencer. Their children do not feature in the teaser, yet it appears fans might be able to catch a glimpse into their stunning home life.
In the voice-over accompanying the clip, Meghan explains: “I’ve always loved taking something pretty ordinary and elevating it. Surprising people with moments that let them know I was really thinking of them.”
On her social media page, Meghan uploaded the clip as an Instagram reel, alongside a caption: “I have been so excited to share this with you! I hope you love the show as much as I loved making it.
“Wishing you all a fantastic new year! Thanks to our amazing crew and the team @netflix. Beyond grateful for the support – and fun!”
