The beautiful UK village called the 'poshest' and with 'best gastro pub'

A village in Merseyside has been named one of the “poshest” places to live in Britain, according to research by Savills and Telegraph Money. Hightown, Sefton, is a hot spot because it offers a great balance between urban conveniences and country lifestyle.

The study revealed that the average house price in Hightown is £315,088. This is quite low compared to other areas on the list, such as Shackleford in Surrey, with an average price of £1,360,038, Sunningdale in Berkshire at £1,462,199, and The Alderleys in Cheshire priced at £1,312,058.

Hightown is popular because it is near transport links like the Southport train line, and is nestled between Formby and Crosby Beach plus the National Trust pine woods. The Times reported: “Commuters can work in the city and retreat to the coast where there are sandy and shingle stretches, dunes and wetlands teaming with wildlife such as natterjack toads.”

“The nearby Sefton Coastal Path provides views of sprawling farmland and coastal vistas.”

Not only that, Moss Lane’s favourite, Pheasant Inn, is considered an excellent gastropub and has been recognised as one of the UK’s top 50 pubs by Big 7 Travel, reports the Liverpool Echo.

The menu features a variety of seasonal favourites and classic pub fare. With a large dining room, bar and outdoor dining space, there’s something for everyone.

With a population of around 2,000, the town also boasts a range of shops, pubs, and restaurants. As it’s located on the coast, it has its own private beach tucked between Crosby and Formby beaches.

Sometimes, lucky visitors might spot a seal relaxing.

Frances McDonald, research director at Savills stated: “Our latest research indicates that proximity to a train station, place of work and family has become much more important for those searching for a new home particularly as individuals are more likely to be commuting to the office multiple times a week.”

“While still important to some now, pandemic buyer wish lists favoured proximity to parks, shops, and local pubs and restaurants. Exactly what village characteristics are classed as essential will vary from buyer to buyer, but we know that access to education, attractive surroundings and connectivity is a decent definition of a ‘have it all’ village.”
