Looking for a unique destination beyond Manchester or Liverpool?
Aughton has more Michelin-starred restaurants than Liverpool and Manchester combined with Liverpool having none at all and Manchester having two Michelin-starred restaurants.
In fact, as ITV reported in 2023, Aughton has become something of a “food capital” of the UK.
Moor Hall has just earned its third Michelin star, becoming one of the few restaurants in the UK to hold three Michelin stars.
The Michelin Guide said: “At Moor Hall, Chef Mark Birchall and his team have continued to hone their craft and have now achieved new levels of excellence.
“The ingredients, many from the kitchen garden, are outstanding; the chefs’ culinary technique is hugely impressive; and the judgement of flavours, of when to prioritise simplicity and when to add complexity, is exemplary.
“The Inspectors particularly enjoyed the classically based turbot cooked in brown butter, with seasonal kuri squash and Mylor prawns.”
The other two Michelin-star restaurants in Aughton are The Barn, Moor Hall’s sister restaurant, which was awarded its first Michelin-star in 2022 and Sō–Lō which got its star in 2023.
Offering a more casual, rustic dining experience than Moor Hall, The Barn serves delicious reasonably-priced set menus and Sunday lunches.
Sō-lō offers refined dishes with a modern take on British cuisine but with global influences.
Aughton is a picturesque village with tree-lined avenues, grand homes, and beautiful fields – perfect for a peaceful getaway.
The village offers stunning countryside views, scenic walking trails, and a close-knit community atmosphere with a 12th-century St. Michael Church and All Angels Church along with a host of local events.
The village’s growing reputation as a culinary hub makes it a must-visit destination for food lovers.
