Texas twins aged just six weeks old 'beaten and starved to death by parents'

Twin sisters, aged just six weeks old, were beaten and starved to death in a shocking case, police say.

Parents Angelina Belinda Calderon and Fernando Vega, both aged 21, have since been arrested at their Texas home and are the prime suspects in their deaths.

Houston Police said they were called to a property in Linden Creek Way at around 11.15am on October 4 after the two twins were said to have been found unresponsive.

Assistant District Attorney Eddie Applebaum told click2houston: “The allegations are alleged to be horrific.

“These two children were about six weeks old and appeared to suffer blunt force injuries, severely malnourished and old and new and new injuries on both of the children.”

A police autopsy reportedly found the two children – who have not been named – died from multiple injuries sustained with a blunt object.

The children had discolored skin, multiple bruises and contusions, when police found them, investigators said.

Pathologist Dr Jesus Rico, at the Harris County Institute of Forensic Science, found one of the children had several injuries including dehydration and contusions on various parts of the body.

Both twins were said to be malnourished with one showing evidence of acute brain bleeding, says KPRC, while the other suffered hemorrhaging of the brain and spinal cord, indicative of recent trauma.

Calderon and Vega are charged with causing seriously bodily injury to a child. They are held at Harris County Jail on a $750,000 bond.

Vega is in court on May 29 and the Calderon’s next court appearance is scheduled for Friday.
