Tesco to close all stores over Christmas – except on two important dates

Major supermarkets including Tesco will adjust their opening hours for Christmas shoppers this year.

It means some stores may stay open later in the lead-up to December 25, but staff will be given time off on the day to spend time with loved ones.

But while many retailers including Asda, Aldi and Lidl will also keep their doors locked on Boxing Day, Tesco has joined Morrisons in opening back up to customers.

Its superstores, express sites and petrol forecourts will all be affected by new opening and closing times to observe the Christmas bank holiday.

The same goes for the New Year too, when the supermarket giant will adjust its trading hours once more.

Tesco Christmas opening hours

Tesco opening hours will depend on the size of the store type – Express or Superstore.

On Christmas Eve, Tesco Extra and Superstores close at 6pm, but most Express stores will remain open until the later time of 10pm.

This means the shops will operate with normal Sunday trading hours as would happen when it’s not a bank holiday.

On Boxing Day, a selected number of Tesco sites will open back up to shoppers, though many will close earlier than usual.
