Teacher, 30, who 'had sex with teenage pupil' told him 'no one better find out'

A teacher allegedly told a pupil “no one better find out” before having sex with him at her flat, a jury has heard.

Rebecca Joynes, 30, is on trial accused of six counts of having sexual activity with a child, with Joynes denying all charges. The accusations involve two teenage boys she met while working as a teacher at a Greater Manchester school.

The trial is underway at Manchester Crown Court, with jurors previously hearing that Joynes allegedly groomed one pupil at the Trafford Centre during a shopping trip, before having sex with him.

She is also accused of falling pregnant by another teenage pupil. On Wednesday, jurors watched video footage of an interview the first boy – known as Boy A – gave to police.

He told officers that after being picked up by Ms Joynes, she drove him to the Trafford Centre and took him to the Selfridges store. He said he was unsure why they had gone to the shop and asked Ms Joynes: “Why are we actually here because I’m not going to get anything? I hope you’re looking for yourself,” reports the MEN.

The boy alleged that Ms Joynes replied: “We came here for you.” He said he then picked up a £350 Gucci belt, which she then paid for. “I remember saying I don’t know why you have done that,” Boy A added. “It’s a lot of money really.”

After leaving the shop, the boy said Joynes drove him to her flat in Salford Quays. While climbing the stairs, he said he felt ‘a bit weird’ about what was happening. But once inside, he said he took a seat on the couch where he was later joined by Joynes.

They then went into her bedroom and started kissing before undressing and began having sex with each other, he added. Joynes repeatedly told the boy “no one better find out”, he told officers.

However, he said he did not ejaculate during the intercourse, adding: “At the time, I thought to myself this is just weird so I didn’t finish. It was just crazy.” After they finished having sex, Boy A said he showered before lying on the bed next to Joynes for “a couple of hours”.

Later that evening, he said he suggested “doing it again” and Joynes told him: “I don’t mind, whatever you want.” They then had sex for a second time, he said.

He told the officer they had not used protection and that after ejaculating on the bed, he told Ms Joynes: “I hope to God, you don’t get pregnant.” He alleged that Ms Joynes replied saying that she ‘doesn’t even know if she can’. The boy said he stayed the night at Ms Joynes’ flat before he was picked up by the mother of a friend the next day.

Before dropping him at home, he said the friend’s mum told him: “I’m not going to tell your mum this time, but don’t do anything this stupid again.”

“She didn’t know it was a teacher,” he added. Later that day, he said he messaged Ms Joynes on Snapchat to say he was concerned that his mother ‘might find out’. He alleged that she replied: “She better not find out that it was me.”

The boy said he reassured her that she would not, but added: “I’m not staying again because it’s too risky. One time is enough.” He said Ms Joynes sent a reply saying “that’s fine with me”.

Earlier on Wednesday, the trial heard that jurors watched the video interview boy A gave to police officers. Boy A told police Joynes had given him 10 of the 11 digits of her phone number and he worked out the missing digit to first make contact with her.

Within days they were exchanging Snapchat messages and after finishing school on a Friday afternoon he went home, changed out of his school uniform and Joynes picked him up at a pre-arranged point in her white Audi A1 car. Boy A told the officer about an alleged conversation on the journey.

He said: “She said something about driving. I went, ‘I wouldn’t know because I’m not old enough,’ and she said, ‘Oh shut up’ laughing and said something like, ‘Stop saying that’ but laughing.”

Ms Joynes, of Pensby Road, Wirral, denies two counts of sexual activity with Boy A, two counts of sexual activity with Boy B and two counts of sexual activity with Boy B while being a person in a position of trust.

The trial continues.
