'Sweden right to be worried' about war with Russia, say Express readers

In the wake of heightened war warnings from Sweden’s military and defence authorities, Express.co.uk conducted a poll to gauge the sentiments of its readers regarding the country’s apprehensions about a possible conflict with Russia.

The results, based on hundreds of responses, indicate a significant level of concern among the public in the UK.

According to the poll, a staggering 72 percent of respondents expressed the belief that Sweden is justified in its worries about the looming threat of war.

On the contrary, 23 percent of participants disagreed, believing that the concerns were unfounded, while 5 percent remained uncertain, responding with ‘Don’t know’.

The alarm was raised earlier this week when Sweden’s army and defence chiefs issued stern warnings, highlighting the real possibility of war with Russia. The unsettling revelation coincides with Sweden’s eager anticipation of formal acceptance into NATO later this year.

Civil Defence Minister Carl-Oskar Bohlin emphasised the gravity of the situation. He said: “There could be a war in Sweden.” Drawing parallels with Ukraine’s resistance against Russian aggression, he called for a collective effort to ensure the ‘total resilience’ of the nation.

Commander-in-Chief Micael Byden underscored the seriousness of the situation and urged immediate action. “It is now about moving from words and understanding to action,” he declared. Byden stressed the urgency of Sweden’s NATO accession, asserting that it is crucial for the country’s defence against potential aggressors.

Encouraging citizens to mentally prepare for any eventuality, Byden prompted individuals to consider their readiness in the face of an invasion.

Drawing attention to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, he urged people to ask themselves vital questions about their preparedness and response in case of a similar situation on home soil.
