A stunt car lost control during a show in Leinfelden-Echterdingen in Germany, crashing into spectators and injuring seven people, including three children. The driver, attempting a rollover stunt, sped over a ramp but spun out just after 3pm on Monday, hitting the crowd where only a small fence stood.
A safety vehicle meant to block the stunt car failed to move due to a technical fault, reported Bild. Emergency crews arrived quickly, treating mostly minor cuts and abrasions. The stunt driver’s family expressed shock and pledged full cooperation with the police investigation.
The crash took place during the ADAC TotalEnergies 24h Nürburgring, an endurance race held annually on the challenging Nordschleife circuit in western Germany.
The event is known for its length and difficulty, with racing continuing through the night in varying weather conditions.
It is organised by ADAC Nordrhein, a regional branch of Germany’s national motoring association.
The race includes a mix of professional and amateur teams driving a wide range of vehicles, from high-end GT3 cars to modified touring cars.
This year’s edition involved over 100 cars, raising ongoing concerns about safety on the narrow and demanding track.
