Stove top stains will sizzle away if cleaned with 2 kitchen ingredients

If you have a glass induction hob, you may have noticed that it can get grubby. Food remnants, water rings and general dust can make your gleaming stovetop look dirty in a really short amount of time.

Removing grime from your hob can be really difficult too – traditional cleaners might not be suited to the glass surface and dirt can get baked on, making it very hard to remove. Luckily, one man has posted a series of his cleaning hacks to TikTok under the name @creative_explained and one of his tips is how to quickly and effectively clean a hob.

He recommends taking some baking soda and sprinkling it over the stovetop, making sure to cover all the stains and baked on dirt.

After that, take half a lemon and squeeze the juice on to the baking soda to make “sizzle”.

Once the sizzle has died down, take a scrubber and scrub the dirt away then wipe it clean.

For extremely stubborn stains or burnt on food scraps, the best way to remove it is with a razor blade.

After softening the strains with the baking soda and lemon, you can try scraping with a blade.

Holding the blade carefully at a 45 degree angle, gently scrape the baked on food and scraps away.

Once you’ve scraped the residue away, wipe the hob down with a clean microfibre cloth.

Why does baking soda work as a cleaner?

Baking soda or bicarbonate of soda is a base or alkali, meaning it has a high pH and one of its chemical properties is that it is able to remove hydrogen in the form of an ion from other materials. What’s more, it can be more potent when added to something acidic like lemon or vinegar, as the two react. Baking soda’s alkalinity helps neutralise acidic stains and dirt, while lemon juice cuts grease When mixed, they also create a reaction that produces carbon dioxide, which can help lift and loosen stains.
